Alex Rodriguez was a no-show when the Yankees took their team picture before last night's game against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium.

Manager Joe Girardi laughed off A-Rod's absence, saying: "Captain Kangaroo will probably get Alex for this one."

Girardi was referring to the time-honored baseball tradition of the Kangaroo Court. Players fine each other for small offenses.

Asked if he considered the matter more serious than that, Girardi said: "No. Players aren't always the best at reading memos on their chairs, I can tell you."

A stand-in was used for Rodriguez, who will be photo-shopped into the picture. Rodriguez arrived in the Yankees clubhouse around 4:15 p.m.; the photo shoot was scheduled for 3:45.

Rodriguez said he just didn't remember Tuesday was picture day.

"I'm going to try to delay Kangaroo Court as much as possible," he said. "I'm going to get crushed. The boys are going to get me good. No excuse. I know that one of our front-office guys had to play Alex Rodriguez for a couple minutes. I have to find that guy and shake his hand. Must have been a tough situation."

Rodriguez, whose salary for the season is $32 million, said he expected his teammates would fine him "a couple hundred bucks. I'm going to lawyer up pretty good."

Derek Jeter, thespian

Derek Jeter has a role in the Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg film "The Other Guys," which opens Friday.

The Yankees captain plays himself. Wahlberg's bumbling cop in the movie accidentally shoots Jeter, which leads to a reassignment.

Jeter said he shot the scene one day last November on Coney Island. He said he has not viewed the scene, which he shot with Wahlberg.

Asked how the shoot went, Jeter said: "It was all right. It was cool."

Jeter previously has appeared as himself in the movie "Anger Management" and TV shows "Seinfeld" and "Saturday Night Live," among others.

Jorge sits

Marcus Thames started at DH vs. lefthander Ricky Romero instead of Jorge Posada. Girardi said it was not because of injury. Francisco Cervelli started at catcher. Posada was batting .292 against lefthanders, Thames .327.
