A representative for Alex Rodriguez on Friday night denied a Star magazine report that A-Rod played in an illegal high-stakes poker league in Hollywood.

"Mr. Rodriguez has not participated in these poker games," public relations man Richard Rubenstein told Newsday.

A-Rod, asked about the report before Friday night's game against the Mets, was vague: "If need be, there's something that I'll say once, but I'm not really going to get into any of that now. I'm going to focus on playing some good baseball here against a great team."

Major League Baseball expressed its disapproval in 2005 when Rodriguez's high-stakes poker playing was reported. MLB spokesman Patrick Courtney told Newsday: "This is the first we have heard about this and we will look into it.''
