Aaron Judge, Yankees' top position prospect, gets a hit in first Triple-A game

The Yankees' major league outfield reshuffle had a minor league beneficiary: Aaron Judge.

The slugging rightfielder was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday for the first time, following the Yankees' recall of Ramon Flores to the majors on June 21. Flores was called up after Mason Williams went on the disabled list with a shoulder injury.

(Williams only got his big league opportunity after Slade Heathcott went on the disabled list with a quad issue. Heathcott was filling in for the injured Jacoby Ellsbury.)

Judge, 23, batted .284 with a .350 on-base percentage and 12 home runs, 16 doubles and three triples in 63 games during his first season with Double-A Trenton.

Judge, batting fifth, recorded his first Triple-A hit on Monday, a single in the seventh inning of the RailRiders' 4-2 loss to Louisville. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (41-31) maintained a 3.5-game lead for first place in the International League North. Judge lined out during his first at-bat in the second inning, struck out in the fifth and popped out in the ninth.

A first-round pick by the Yankees in the 2013 draft, Judge is a career .300 hitter with a .396 OBP and 29 home runs in 195 minor league games.

Catcher Eddy Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double, but Bowie beat the Thunder, 6-0.

Second baseman Abiatal Avelino was 3-for-5 with his 17th stolen base, and shortstop Tyler Wade went 2-for-5 with his 26th stolen base, but Tampa fell to Dunedin, 5-3. Third baseman Miguel Andujar was 2-for-4, designated hitter Mike Ford went 2-for-5 and catcher Kyle Higashioka walked three times.

Lefthander Ethan Carnes struck out four in five innings, allowing six hits and one run in a 10-3 win over Connecticut. Shortstop Thairo Estrada homered and walked, and third baseman Drew Bridges went 4-for-5 with two doubles.

Lefthander Alexander Figueredo (3-0, 1.40 ERA) struck out seven in five innings, allowing four hits in the Yankees' 8-0 win over the DSL Orioles 2. Lefthander Orby Tavares earned his second save with four innings of one-hit relief. He struck out six and walked two.

Leftfielder Antonio Arias was 3-for-5 with a triple and first baseman Miguel Flames went 3-for-4 with a double as the Yankees beat the DSL Pirates, 7-5.

Vicente Campos, who used to go by the first name Jose and was the other piece in the Jesus Montero-Michael Pineda trade, struck out five in 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs in the Yankees' 5-2 loss to the GCL Phillies. The start was his first minor league game since Aug. 25, 2013 with Charleston. Campos is 21-13 with a 3.41 ERA in 72 career minor league games.

Rehabbing righthanded reliever Andrew Bailey struck out two and allowed a walk in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Bailey hasn't pitched in the majors since 2013, sidelined with a shoulder injury.
