The best umpire in the majors is….Jim Joyce?
Despite his call that cost Detroit’s Armando Galarraga a perfect game, a survey conducted by ESPN The Magazine had Joyce the favorite of 100 players responding to the survey. Joyce received 53 percent of the vote.
Eighty-six percent of the players said commissioner Bud Selig made the right move in not overturning Joyce’s call on the play at first base and 77 percent were against using instant replay to check on umpire’s calls on the bases.
