Brian Cashman waiting until he re-signs before discussing Yankees' plans

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said he wants to come back. Owner Hal Steinbrenner has said he wants Cashman back.

So does Cashman anticipate his new contract getting done quickly after the season ends on Sunday?

"I don't anticipate anything," he said Saturday. "My contract runs through Oct. 31 and I can't tell you anything past that. When and if decisions get made, you guys'll be brought in the loop."

It would be an upset if Cashman doesn't sign a new deal before his old one runs out. But perhaps in the spirit of negotiations, Cashman declined to comment on his plans for the 2015 Yankees until his own situation is settled.

"My stuff's not really resolved," he said. "So there have been no discussions just yet. So that'll all wait for another day. I don't want to really talk about game planning or focus or what should or shouldn't be looked at. I'll wait until we all sit down with ownership and they can map out their strategy and who's going to be a part of that and then we'll go from there."

Asked if he wanted to come back, Cashman said: "I covered that already a long time ago. I don't want to rehash it."
