Bullpen again bails out Nova
Leading 4-0 entering the sixth inning of last night's game against Tampa Bay, the Yankees probably did not think it would take five more pitchers to close out the Rays.
Then again, with Ivan Nova known for his rapid meltdowns, they probably did.
Nova lasted 5 2/3 innings and had to settle for another no decision as the Rays tied the score at 4 in the top of the sixth before the Yanks regained the lead and won, 8-6.
Nova's departure started the usual parade of relievers in Boone Logan, Chad Gaudin, David Robertson, Kerry Wood and finally Mariano Rivera.
Wood and Rivera probably will not be called upon tonight, meaning Joba Chamberlain could find himself in a pressure situation. Tampa Bay was able to save bullpen stars Joaquin Benoit and Rafael Soriano.
