A.J. Burnett threw three wild pitches to add to his major-league leading total, which is now 23. That ties the team record set by Tim Leary in 1990.
Girardi said Mariano Rivera was not available after pitching two days in a row.
The Yankees started the game with 10,294 hits and 1,387 home runs on the bench (not counting pitchers) as Girardi rested most of his regulars.
The Yankees fell to 4-8 in extra-inning games.
