Carlos Beltran says he turned down offer to work in Yankees front office with Brian Cashman

Carlos Beltran said that after he interviewed for the Yankees managerial opening and did not get it, that general manager Brian Cashman offered him a spot in the club’s front office — “a job to be next to him,” is how he described it.

On Tuesday night at the Thurman Munson Awards Dinner, where he and Jorge Posada received the Munson Legend Award at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan, Beltran said he was tempted to take it because of the organization’s bright future, but that he ultimately decided that he wanted to spend a year outside of baseball “to give myself the opportunity to miss the game . . . and maybe see next year what I want to do” and that the manager’s position was the only thing that would have changed his mind.

Beltran said he does want a future in the game and that there is a chance he will talk with the Yankees again next offseason.
