Alex Rodriguez will be the second player since 2008 to enter the 600 home run club. Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 600th on June 9, 2008 in Florida against the Marlins. He was playing for the Reds at the time. Only 16,003 fans were in the stadium. One was Joe Scherer, who was wearing a Sergio Mitre uniform top.

Scherer battled another fan for Griffey's blast and it became a matter for the courts, which awarded the ball to Scherer. According to reports, Griffey wanted the ball and offered Scherer an all expenses paid trip to the All-Star Game and other baseball items, but Scherer refused and sent the ball to an auction, where it fetched $42,000. To compare, Barry Bonds' 762nd HR ball was sold for $376,612.
