The Yankees' top prospect, Jesus Montero, has been in the news much of the season for the wrong reasons. The 6-4, 225-pound catcher, considered one of the best hitting prospects in baseball, started the season slowly at the plate, was benched in May for a lack of hustle, and two months later was the centerpiece in a trade to the Mariners that would have landed the Yankees Cliff Lee.
But since returning from his benching, Montero has steadily compiled numbers and entered last night leading Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in homers (14), RBIs (53), doubles (28) and total bases (181). He ranks sixth in batting average (.287) and fourth in on-base percentage (.361). He's been on fire his last 10 games, hitting .447 with a .512 OBP, three homers, five doubles and six RBIs. Yankees fans have been wanting to see Montero all season and they'll likely get that chance Sept. 1.
