Catcher J.R. Murphy, 19, is part of the Yankees' exceptionally deep minor-league catching reservoir. Drafted in the second round last year, Murphy hit .333 with the GCL Yankees, hitting safely in eight of the nine games he played last season.

The athletic Murphy, rated the fifth-best catcher in last year's draft by Baseball America, started this season with Class A Charleston and is off to a rough start, hitting .197 with one homer, 12 RBIs and a .231 on-base percentage in 16 games.

But with Jesus Montero and Austine Romine ahead of Murphy on the minor-league depth chart and Gary Sanchez, the 18-year-old non-drafted free agent signed last summer, in the system, there's certainly not a rush to see big numbers.
