Centerfielder Slade Heathcott, 19, the Yankees' first-round pick in 2009 out of Texas High School in Texarkana, is off to a good start in his first full season of pro ball (he played three games for the Gulf Coast League Yankees at the end of 2009, going 1-for-10).

The lefthanded-hitting Heathcott, picked 29th overall and tabbed by Baseball America as one of only a handful of five-tool players in last year's draft, is hitting .333 with three doubles and a triple in 12 games with Class A Charleston. He's struck out 11 times in 51 at-bats but has walked five times and has a .407 on-base percentage.

Some teams stayed away from Heathcott, rated the organization's fourth-best prospect, in the '09 draft because of past knee and shoulder injuries, but the Yankees believe they got a steal.
