Girardi's advice for Hughes: Shake it off

Joe Girardi has some simple advice for Phil Hughes: Shake it off. “There’s nothing that you can do from that start except learn from it and improve on it,” he said after Hughes labored through 41 / 3 innings Friday night. Even after being given a 14-2 lead after three innings, he couldn’t get through the fifth to gain credit for the victory.

“You’re looking at how a guy is doing every start no matter who it is,” Girardi said. “And you have to make moves when you feel it’s the right time to make moves. But as far as evaluating him, we know what he can do. It’s just Phil going out and doing it.”
