TAMPA, Fla. -- For the first time this spring training, Joe Girardi trotted out the lineup Wednesday night that he might use on Opening Day against the Tigers.

It worked pretty well as the Yankees had 12 hits in a 10-0 win over the Orioles at Steinbrenner Field.

Eight of the nine starters had at least one hit. The one who didn't, Brett Gardner, walked and scored a run.

Alex Rodriguez hit his third home run and is batting .414. Mark Teixeira went 2-for-2 and is batting .407.

The order was: Jeter, Swisher, Teixeira, Rodriguez, Cano, Posada, Granderson, Martin, Gardner.

Is that what we're going to see March 31 against Justin Verlander at Yankee Stadium? "I'm anticipating seeing Verlander," Girardi said. "I'm anticipating seeing those nine guys in the lineup, yes."

As for the actual batting order . . . "We'll see," Girardi said.

Joba on shelf

Asked if he thought Joba Chamberlain (oblique strain) would be ready for Opening Day, Girardi said: "I sure hope so." Chamberlain is expected to play catch Friday. But he won't get into a game until next week.

Extra bases

Girardi was not pleased to see Nick Swisher leap over the bullpen fence in an attempt to catch a foul ball. "I said, 'Swish, that was a very good athletic play,' " he said. " 'But don't do it again.' " . . . Six players were sent down after the game, including SP Andrew Brackman and IF/OF Kevin Russo . . . According to a report on the New York Post website, the Yankees had a scout watch veteran free agent Kevin Millwood throw . . . Martin said he has shed the knee brace he had been wearing and is close to 100 percent.
