Jeter (cold) likely to play Tuesday
Derek Jeter said he could have played Sunday with a cold that has nagged him for a few days - he did play with it on Saturday, when he homered and singled twice - but Joe Girardi opted to keep Jeter out of Sunday's homestand finale.
"He said he was OK, but when you can get a day off, and then there's a long flight, it was better," Girardi said. "I expect him to play Tuesday."
The Yankees headed out of the Stadium and straight off to Oakland Sunday despite a day off Monday. Jeter looked fine after the game and wasn't concerned about any lingering ill effects.
Swisher struggling
Nick Swisher hit the ball hard twice, but right at outfielders, and struck out twice, once with the bases loaded in the third. Since getting hits in his first six games, Swisher is in a 1-for-19 skid in the last six, though he has five walks in that span.
"It's got to turn sooner or later," Swisher said. "I don't need to change anything. I'm hitting the ball hard, it's just right at guys. The worst thing I could do is start changing things."
Extra bases
Mariano Rivera converted his 50th consecutive save opportunity at Yankee Stadium, the second-longest streak of its kind. Eric Gagne converted 51 straight home save opportunities from 2002-04 with the Dodgers . . . Girardi earned his 200th victory as Yankees manager Saturday, the 11th man to do so . . . The Yankees have 15 stolen bases this season, third in the AL behind Tampa Bay (17) and Kansas City (17). It's been 25 years since the Yankees led the AL in steals.
