Yankees captain Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly, his actress girlfriend of three years, have broken up.
Kelly's representative confirmed the split Friday to blogger Jared Eng of the website JustJared.com, which first reported it. People magazine shortly afterward reported that the split was amicable and that the couple was still friends.
Neither Kelly, 31, who was voted Esquire magazine's "Sexiest Woman Alive 2010," nor Jeter, 37, has commented.
The two began dating in May 2008 and were twice subjected to rumors of an impending marriage: First, that they would wed after the 2009 World Series, and then that they would marry Nov. 5, 2010, at Huntington's Oheka Castle.
Kelly accompanied Jeter on a parade float down the Canyon of Heroes after the '09 Series and was often seen at Yankee Stadium -- including on July 9 when Jeter had his 3,000th hit.
She also appeared in last month's HBO documentary "Derek Jeter 3K," saying, "When I met Derek, I didn't know anything about baseball at all" -- to which he jokingly replied, "She's lying. She had a poster of me on her wall when she was in high school."
Kelly will co-star in the ABC remake of "Charlie's Angels," debuting Sept. 22, and is best known for her role on the TV show "Friday Night Lights."
