Derek Jeter didn’t say much regarding Tiger Woods Tuesday night on the red carpet before accepting Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year award in Manhattan.

“My comment would be to respect his privacy,” he said then.

Jeter was a bit more expansive yesterday morning on Fox News, though only in speaking generally about life in the spotlight.

Asked if that glare forced him to try and live his life “perfectly,” Jeter said that was unrealistic.

“I wouldn’t say perfectly,” he said on Fox and Friends. “Nobody’s perfect, everybody makes mistakes. I’ll be the first one to say, I’ve made mistakes as well.”

Jeter, who later in the interview said he was “pretty close” with Woods, said celebrities should have some measure of privacy.

“Everything you do people want to know about — I don’t always think that’s fair,” Jeter said. “I try to keep things private, you know there are so many things that are made up, people fabricate this story and that story, but you understand it’s part of it.”

“When you’re younger, I think it affects you a little bit more. I think it bothers you and it bothers your family and friends because they have feelings as well.”
