Is the fourth member of "The Core," who graced the cover of Sports Illustrated in early May, about to miss playing time?

Too soon to tell, manager Joe Girardi said after lifting Derek Jeter in the seventh inning after the shortstop singled.

"We won't really know until tomorrow," Girardi said Monday.

Jeter was hit in the left thigh by Mitch Talbot in the second inning and stayed in the game, singling in the fifth and seventh innings. But after Jeter reached first in the seventh, Girardi sent in Ramiro Peña to pinch run and play shortstop.

"He got hit in the back of the hamstring, it stiffened up, so I said, I'm going to take you out and get some ice on it," Girardi said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow."

Jeter, 17-for-35 in his last eight games after going 2-for-3 yesterday, was not available in the clubhouse afterward for comment.
