Joba Chamberlain has fender bender, is not hurt

The righthander, rapidly progressing in his rehab from Tommy John surgery and a serious ankle injury, was involved in a fender bender Thursday morning in Tampa. Chamberlain, on his way to the Yankees' minor-league complex to work out, was not hurt.

"Heard he was hit from behind," general manager Brian Cashman said by phone late Thursday afternoon. "He said he was OK. It prevented him from getting to the complex because he had to fill out a police report."

Chamberlain is scheduled to throw live batting practice Monday, the first time he will do so in his rehabilitation from the open dislocation of his right ankle suffered in a trampoline accident March 22. He has vowed to pitch again this season.

"He's in his 30-day rehab cycle," Cashman said. "If everything goes all right, in 31, 32 days, he'll join us."

Aardsma, 30, who saved 38 and 31 games in 2009 and 2010 for the Mariners, has been recovering from Tommy John surgery.
