Joe Torre to wear Yankees cap on Hall of Fame plaque

Joe Torre will wear a Yankees cap on his Hall of Fame plaque, the Baseball Hall of Fame announced Thursday.
The former Yankees manager said he expected as much at last week's owners' meetings.
"The stuff with the Yankees, it's crazy," Torre said Jan. 15. "That made my career. I didn't get any more hits as a player from the time I wasn't considered to where I was [elected to the Hall] . . . If it wasn't for the Yankees, I wouldn't be where I am, in the Hall of Fame."
Torre won four World Series titles as Yankees manager from 1996-2007. His Yankees record was 1,173-767. He was elected to the Hall in December, along with fellow managers Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa, by the expansion era committee.
Players Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas were elected by the Baseball Writers' Association of America earlier this month.
The Hall of Fame decides in consultation with the inductee which logo, if any, will appear on the plaque. Of the six inductees this year, two -- La Russa and Maddux -- will go in without a team logo on their caps.
Of the 300 previous Hall members, 86 have caps with logos and 42 don't have caps.
La Russa won a World Series with the Oakland Athletics and two with the St. Louis Cardinals during a 33-year managerial career.
Maddux, who won 355 games for four teams, starred for the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs.
"My wife Kathy and I grew up in baseball in Chicago, and then we had just an amazing experience in Atlanta with the Braves," Maddux said in a statement released by the Hall of Fame. "It's impossible for me to choose one of those teams for my Hall of Fame plaque, as the fans of both clubs in each of those cities were so wonderful. I can't think of having my Hall of Fame induction without support of both of those fan bases, so for that reason, the cap on my Hall of Fame plaque will not feature a logo."
Cox and Glavine will go in as Braves. Thomas will go in as a Chicago White Sox. The ceremony will take place July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. With AP
