The Yankees have suddenly lost three straight and need a rookie pitcher to prevent them from being swept by the last place Orioles. The Yankees lead Tampa Bay by 1 1/2 games.

Ivan Nova (1-0, 2.89) had his first shaky start in his last outing, leaving with two outs in the fifth inning against the Blue Jays after allowing three runs on six hits. He didn't seem very happy that Joe Girardi yanked him one out short of qualifying for the pitching victory.

It's about winning the game, not personal victories, he learned.

Nova pitched well in his first two starts. He allowed two runs to the Blue Jays over 5 1/3 innings on August 23, then had a fairly dominating performance against the White Sox, striking out seven and giving up a run on five hits on August 29.
