Lee has fanned DH Thames 15 times
Marcus Thames, the likely designated hitter against Cliff Lee, has struck out in 15 of 36 at-bats against the lefthanded pitcher. Thames does have three homers off Lee, but is batting just .194.
Why not try Lance Berkman, you ask?
Berkman is 3-for-8 (.375) with one RBI vs. Lee. It is a small sampling and one not likely to prompt Joe Girardi to deviate from using Thames against all lefties.
