Applicants need not apply to manage the Yankees or Twins.

Wild-card skippers Joe Girardi and the Twins’ Paul Molitor have expiring contracts, but re-signing may just be a formality when the season concludes for both American League Manager of the Year candidates.

Girardi, finishing his 10th season, is expected to be offered a new deal in the offseason, which has been standard procedure under managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner. Length and dollars appear to be the only issue for Girardi, who in 2013 signed a four-year deal totaling $16 million. An industry source said Tuesday that no discussions have taken place that would suggest any changes in the team’s desire to retain Girardi or general manager Brian Cashman.

Molitor, a Hall of Fame player but first-time manager, brought the Twins from a 103-loss season to the postseason for the first time in seven seasons.

“If circumstances were different and we weren’t playing Tuesday, I might have spent more time thinking about it, to be honest with you,” Molitor told pioneerpress.com. “Whenever we’re done, and hopefully it’s not for awhile, I’m sure that will be pushed to the forefront.”

Molitor is said to have the support of Twins owner Jim Pohlad.
