Catcher Russell Martin (back) took some swings and threw some long toss with A.J. Burnett yesterday and pronounced himself fit to do something today, whether it’s catch or at least be available to do so.

Martin hasn’t played since Tuesday, when his back stiffened up. Joe Girardi said Friday, to some surprise, that Jorge Posada is the emergency catcher; yesterday, Girardi clarified that he’s talked with Posada, who hasn’t crouched behind a plate once this season but is on board with filling in if needed.
