Molina had spurned Mets
Bengie Molina took a circuitous route to Game 4 stardom for the Rangers. The Mets wanted the free agent catcher last winter but he didn't want them. He stayed with the Giants for $4.5 million, a reported $1 million less than the Mets offered.
Molina hit .257 with three home runs and 17 runs batetd in though the first 61 games. The Giants discovered Buster Posey and Molina was sent to Texas.
Molina hit .240 with two homers and 19 RBIs the rest of the regular season, but his postseason work against the Yankees--12-for-33 with three homers and seven RBIs--loomed large when the Rangers were matched with the Yanks in the ALCS.
That set up the watershed moment against A.J. Burnett.
