No truth to tweet that Cano tested positive for PEDs

A Twitter rumor that quickly caught fire and spread across the Internet yesterday afternoon alleging Robinson Cano tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and faced a suspension from MLB was 100 percent false, two sources with knowledge of the situation said.
A tweet from a television reporter in Charlotte, N.C., asserted that the second baseman would be suspended soon.
"Can't confirm this but I'm hearing that Robinson #Cano tested positive for PEDs," the tweet read. "Announcement from #MLB coming shortly."
There was no such announcement, and by all accounts there isn't expected to be one. About an hour after his initial tweet, the reporter, apparently facing a backlash online, tweeted: "Good God. Everyone calm down. Don't know how clearly I can state it -- I HAVE NO CONFIRMATION THAT CANO PED RUMOR IS TRUE."
Cano declined through a club spokesman to speak to reporters after batting practice Thursday night.
That the rumor took off wasn't surprising given the high-profile names already suspended this season for PED use. Headlining that group is the Giants' Melky Cabrera, a former Yankees outfielder and one of Cano's best friends, who was suspended for 50 games last month.
"I was 100 percent surprised," Cano told reporters when Cabrera was suspended. "He was having a great year."
