Somewhat overlooked in last night's 8-7 victory over Tampa Bay was the meltdown of starting pitcher Ivan Nova. He could not hold a 6-0 lead after throwing four scoreless innings.

Nova was removed after the Rays closed within 6-4. With two runners on base, Boone Logan relieved Nova and gave up a three-run home run to pinch-hitter Willy Aybar.

Nova was charged with six runs in his poorest start in the majors.  His problems seem to come the second time around in the batting order, a serious flaw for a starting picther.

Nova's ERA jumped to 4.30 but do not expect him to lose his turn in the rotation at this late date. It makes little sense to travel down the Javier Vazquez path once again.
