Andy Pettitte threw the ceremonial first pitch Sunday to his former batterymate, Jorge Posada.

"It was cool," Pettitte said. "It was a cool moment, that's for sure. It kind of happened so quick. You go out there, you throw it. What was cool was to have Jorgie back there. I jogged out to the mound and you kind of have flashbacks."

Pettitte had been back to the Stadium privately twice before this visit, which was prompted by the Yankees' decision to ask his wife, Laura, to sing the national anthem before yesterday's game. But this was the first time he took the field in front of Yankees fans since announcing he would not pitch this season.

"It was just great to be able to be back, see the fans," he said. "It's another special day for me at Yankee Stadium."
