GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Phil Jackson chose watching football over Derek Jeter's final home game Thursday night. But the Knicks president ultimately saw Jeter deliver the game-winning hit and called it "a wonderful thing."

Jackson was a part of the Brand Jordan commercial in which everyone tips their cap to Jeter. He said he never met Jeter, but admires him.

"I do not know him, have not had conversations with Derek," Jackson said Friday during a pre-training camp availability with Knicks officials. "[I] respect his record, his tenure here with the Yankees. He's a great leader in the baseball world and what a way to go out last night with the home crowd.

"Unfortunately I did not see the moment. I was watching a football game but it was replayed enough so I could get the feel for it. So what a wonderful thing to do for the crowd that so desperately wanted to see him succeed."
