Posada was asked to catch in spring

Girardi said in case of an emergency, “I’d probably put Russell back there,” indicating Russell Martin will see time behind the plate before Jorge Posada. Cashman, in an interview on WFAN yesterday, said when Francisco Cervelli got hurt this spring, Posada was asked to prepare to catch. But the veteran was feeling the effects of a concussion suffered last season and declined.
