Rays could join Yanks in record book

Tampa Bay will try to join the Yankees in the record book as the only team to come back from an 0-2 deficit (after losing the first two games at home) to win the five-game ALDS.

In 2001, the Yanks went to Oakland down by two games.  Game 3 was the pivotal meeting.  Jorge Posada's fifth inning home run off Barry Zito gave the Yanks a 1-0 lead. In the bottom on the seventh,  Mike Mussina gave up a two-out single to Jeremy Giambi. Terrence Long then hit a ball into the right field corner. Giambi was off and running and tried to score when Shane Spencer’s throw from right missed cutoff man Tino Martinez.

Enter Derek Jeter, who had roamed toward the first base line. Jeter fielded the errant throw and backhanded the ball to the plate, where Posada tagged out Giambi.  The Yankees won that game and the next two to take the series.
