Reports: Yankees close to deal with Randy Winn
According to multiple reports (Joel Sherman of the Post was the first to report this), the Yankees and free agent outfielder Randy Winn are close to agreeing on a one-year contract worth $2 million. The deal won't be final until Winn passes a physical.
The real story here is that this undoubtedly signals the end of Johnny Damon's tenure with the Yankees. Of course, nothing will be final until Damon signs with another team, but the Winn signing leaves no room in the Bronx for Damon.
Winn hit .262 with two home runs and 51 RBIs for the San Francisco Giants last season. Meanwhile, Damon is coming off a solid season, batting .282 with 24 homes runs and 82 RBIs.
