Robinson Cano had said he was OK, and he turned out to be right.
Cano, who exited Tuesday night's All-Star Game after getting hit in the right quadriceps by Matt Harvey's fastball, was in Friday night's lineup. He went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. "I'm good,'' he said. "It was nothing bad. Just a contusion on my right quad. But I'm walking fine and it feels good.''
X-rays taken at Citi Field on Tuesday were negative, and Cano felt good enough to fly home to the Dominican Republic the next day. He said he was "nervous'' after getting hit but felt better going to first.
"Most of the time when you get hit there, it's hard to walk at the beginning, but I was walking,'' Cano said. "Everything was just tight and not like bad, bad pain.''
He said the bruise hasn't caused any recent discomfort. "So far, it feels good,'' Cano said. "Hopefully, everything stays like that.''
Phelps, who threw a bullpen session in Tampa Friday, is 5-4 with a 4.93 ERA in 12 starts.
