Rookie Brian Matusz will challenge Yankees

At 4-17, the Orioles have baseball's worst record by a large margin. That makes the 2-0 record of rookie lefthander Brian Matusz, 23, who starts against the Yankees in the series finale tonight at Camden Yards, all the more impressive. Matusz (2-0, 4.38 ERA) got a no-decision last time out in Boston, but he gave up just one run in the first six innings and was charged with two more after giving way in the seventh inning. Matusz faced the Yankees once previously, holding them to one run and four hits in seven innings last season at the Stadium.

A.J. Burnett (2-0, 3.20) goes for the Yankees. He is 2-1 with a 5.84 ERA against the Orioles in four starts since joining the Yankees. Burnett is coming off a no-decision at Oakland that he graded as a "D-minus" performance because he was overthrowing. Burnett is undefeated in seven straight road starts going back to last season and is 3-0 in that span. He has held opponents to three earned runs or less in his past five road starts. But he's never won his first three decisions to start a season.
