Rough day for Gardner
Brett Gardner was caught stealing twice yesterday — trying to steal second in the third inning and third base with one out in the fifth. The Indians used a pitchout on the first one and starter Mitch Talbot used an inside move on the second, spinning around to fake a throw to second after Gardner had broken.
“[Speed] is the biggest part of my game and recently, I haven’t been doing a good job utilizing it,” said Gardner, who has 13 stolen bases but has been caught nine times, tied for most in the AL. “It didn’t work out today, but I’ll get right back at it tomorrow.”
