Derek Jeter offered few words about Alex Rodriguez and the beleaguered slugger's 2014 season-long suspension by Major League Baseball while speaking to reporters Wednesday from the kickoff event for his Celebrity Golf Classic at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino.

"As a teammate, you're saddened by the whole thing," Jeter said. "The whole thing's been kind of messy. Other than that, it is what it is. I really have no more comments on it."

Jeter said he has spoken to Rodriguez since the suspension was announced but couldn't offer any insight into how the third baseman is taking the news.

"I'm sure it's rough," Jeter said. "He's human, so I'm sure it's a rough situation, but you've got to ask him that one."

Jeter said he's been working out since the beginning of November to return from a fractured left ankle that kept him from all but 17 games of the 2013 season.

"Everything's good," the shortstop said. "Everything's been going real good. I'm looking forward to getting back out there."

Jeter said he expects to get back out on the field at the spring training complex soon.

"I'm starting probably on Monday," he said.

Retired Yankees catcher Jorge Posada also offered his thoughts on A-Rod.

"It's tough to see a friend go through that," Posada said. " . . . I want him to know that he's got my support."
