Scouts' honor, Golson can throw
Tampa Bay players, including victim Carl Crawford, said they had no idea that Greg Golson has a strong arm.
The lesson: Read the scouting report.
Golson was originally drafted by the Phillies, then went to the Rangers before being acquired by the Yankees. Here is an excerpt from a scouting report dated February, 2010.
``When the Texas Rangers made the deal for Greg Golson in 2008, they did so due to his Gold Glove caliber defense in center-field. He offers huge speed, arm strength and range in center field. He has a laser arm with outstanding accuracy and gets good reads on fly balls. His arm rates a 70 on a 20-80 scouting scale. He can also make up for mistakes because of his speed. Because of his speed and range, he can play any three outfield positions.
