FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A settlement has been approved in a wrongful death suit that stemmed from a fatal crash involving former major leaguer Jim Leyritz.

Sam Coffey, an attorney for the family of Fredia Ann Veitch, says Leyritz's insurance will pay $250,000. Additionally, the former ballplayer will pay $1,000 a month for 100 months, starting April 15, 2011.

Veitch was killed in a December 2007 collision. A DUI manslaughter trial for the crash is scheduled to start later this year.

John Richards, an attorney for Leyritz, says the civil settlement isn't an admission of guilt. He says Leyritz maintains his innocence on the criminal charges.

Leyritz played for six teams and last was in the majors in 2000.
