Guard Irving leaving Duke for NBA

Point guard Kyrie Irving is leaving Duke after one season to enter the NBA draft. Coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement issued Wednesday by the school that Irving plans to hire an agent, ending his college career. Krzyzewski says he is "totally supportive" of Irving and his decision, and said the entire Duke program "is overjoyed with having Kyrie here" for one season. Irving played only 11 games and missed roughly two-thirds of the season with an injured big toe on his right foot. The 6-2 guard averaged 17.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Duke.

O'Boyle coach

Beth O'Boyle is the new women's basketball coach at Stony Brook University, the school announced. O'Boyle spent four seasons at Canisius College, the last two as associate head coach. She replaces interim coach Evelyn Thompson, who took over when Michele Cherry resigned during the season. O'Boyle also spent three seasons as head coach at Montclair State, where she was 51-33 overall and 33-14 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. SOCCERManU beats Chelsea in Champions League

LeBron in business with Red Sox owners

LeBron James is going into business with the Boston Red Sox. The baseball team's sister company, Fenway Sports Management, says it has signed James to a long-term deal to handle his marketing. As part of the deal, James has obtained a small piece of the soccer team Liverpool in the English Premier League.

Milicic auctioning ring to raise charity money

Darko Milicic is auctioning the 2004 NBA championship ring he won with the Detroit Pistons to raise money and awareness for children dealing with the terminal illness Batten's disease. Batten's is a neurological disorder that affects mostly children. Milicic became familiar with the condition after reading about a family affected by it in his native Serbia. He paid for four children to travel to China for stem cell treatments that cost $35,000 each. -- APCOLLEGE LACROSSE

Djaha scores three in Stony Brook loss

Samantha Djaha scored three goals but the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team lost to UMBC, 10-8, in Baltimore. Djaha became just the eighth player in program history to record 100 career points.
