Subway Series moment: Bruney vs. K-Rod
The first spark of the 2009 Subway Series was ignited by then-Yankee reliever Brian Bruney, who verbally took on Mets’ reliever Francisco Rodriguez for his animated displays on the mound.
Bruney, injured at the time, said of K-Rod, ``He’s got a tired act,’’ among other choice words. K-Rod said he didn't even know who Bruney was and berated him as a Double-A pitcher. K-Rod later encountered Bruney on the field, but it never came to blows and Bruney eventually said he was sorry.
Bruney was traded to Washington after the season. He was 1-2 with a 7.64 earned run average and was recently designated for assignment.
