Carlos Pena can become a free agent after the season. The Rays do not have any money to sign him (or Carl Crawford or closer Rafael Soriano for that matter)  but Pena isn't doing much to enhance his value or asking price for other teams.

More than ever, Pena has become home run or nothing. He has 27 HRs and 81 runs batted in. But his .203 average is a heavy liability.

Pena hit .227 last year with 39 homers and 100 RBIs. Those power numbers can support a low average.  His career mark is .242.

Pena has homered twice off Phil Hughes, tonight's starter for the Yankees.

Think the Yanks would be interested in Pena as a DH?

With that average, unlikely.
