There was such an A-list at Yankee Stadium Sunday night that even Albert Pujols paused on his way to the on-deck circle to pay homage to a couple of the guests. This time, the celebrities in the crowd outshone the ones on the field.
Fans roared when Iman Shumpert of the Knicks was shown on the massive video screen. They booed vigorously when the image of Dwyane Wade, fresh off a win over the Knicks at the Garden, appeared. Then the boos turned to cheers when Wade held up the Yankees cap he had been holding.
No strangers to dramatic effect, Yankees officials held off on showing the mega-celebrity athlete wearing a Yankees cap: Tim Tebow. That came in the middle of the third inning, and there were more boos than cheers.
There still was room in the fans' hearts for one of their own. After the second inning, the screen showed a clip of Aaron Boone's home run that beat the Red Sox and sent the Yankees to the 2003 World Series. Then it showed Boone, sitting in the crowd. There was a huge ovation.
