The happiest 1-6 players you'll see in a while

BOSTON – Adrian Gonzalez, before the Red Sox’s home opener and his first game in The Rivalry, said it simply before Friday’s game against the Yankees:
“It’s going to be great that we’re going to be able to get our first win here at Fenway. That’s going to be special.”
Now, don’t think Gonzalez was saying the Red Sox were definitely going to win on Friday. He just meant they were going to eventually win, and why not then? As much as Yankee fans would have liked it, the Red Sox were not going to go 0-162.
That sound you heard from New England after the game was a giant exhale. The Red Sox beat the Yankees, 9-6, and can start to recover from their 0-6 beginning.
“I’ve never seen a team so happy to be 1-6,” manager Terry Francona said. “But that was the best we could do today. So that’s good. Got to start somewhere.”
In case you missed the game and were wondering, the Red Sox were not booed when they lined up for pregame introductions. Red Sox fans decided to be supportive, not judgmental.
Carl Crawford, though, was booed a little for going 0-for-5 and seeing his batting average drop to .143. That’s what happens in Boston – or New York, for that matter – when you sign for $142 million.
