The hit Teixeira was happy not to get

Mark Teixeira was kicking himself after Friday  night's game for his pop up with the bases loaded and none out in the fifth inning against Ricky Romero.

"Just a bad at-bat," Teixeira said.

One at-bat earlier, Romero robbed Teixeira of a hit, snagging a screaming liner hit right back at the pitcher. Romero caught the ball at face level, the momentum of the play carrying him to the ground. Teixeira stood, stunned, for a moment before walking back to the dugout.

"I'm glad he caught it," Teixeira said. "If he doesn't get his glove up there, it could have been lucky. He got lucky." 

Said Blue Jays manager John Farrell: "If it doesn't hit his glove, I'd be scared to think of what might have happened." 

*** David Robertson made his first career error in the sixth inning and it was costly, a misfire into the outfield when he appeared to have Jose Bautista picked off. Two Blue Jays runs would score in the inning, the first runs allowed by the reliever this season.

"I panicked," Robertson said. "I didn’t set my feet and make a good throw to Robby…I screwed up tonight. No one to blame but me."
