THE POSTGAME SHOW: CC on short rest in Game 4?
ARLINGTON, Texas -- CC Sabathia suggested his struggles tonight might have been the result of the eight days between starts.
"I guess so," he said, when asked about the long layoff. "I don't want to make any excuses or anything like that, but you know I just couldn't throw the ball over the plate."
Remember, he also wasn't his normal self in his first start against the Twins, which followed a longer-than-usual layoff.
So might these two straight sub-par starts preceded by extra rest be enough reason for the Yankees to bring their ace back on short rest in Game 4, regardless of how the series is going?
"I'm worried about Game 2," Joe Girardi said.
Sabathia, who threw 93 pitches last night, gave up five runs and six hits and walked four in four innings. In Game 1 against the Twins, he allowed four runs (three earned), five hits and walked three in six innings.
"I just had no command," he said regarding last night's game. "I couldn't execute my game-plan because I couldn't throw the ball over the plate. I was just trying to battle throw strikes... I felt strong. I just had no fastball command and everything I throw comes off my fastball."
