The Yankees Winn? Not really
The Yankees have the highest payroll in the big leagues at over $206 million. Tampa Bay ranks 21st with just under $72 million. No contest, right?
Well, there is one big difference and it comes in outfield where Rays’ star Carl Crawford makes $10 million, while the Yankees’ current platoon of Randy Winn ($1.1 million) and Marcus Thames ($900,000) come cheap.
No wonder the rumor mill is heating up as Crawford becomes eligible for free agency after the season. In this instance, you get what you pay for.
