Yankees offense erupts
The Yankees avenged an afternoon 12-9 loss, routing the Philadelphia Athletics, 21-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Shibe Park. The score was the largest margin for a shutout in the Yankees' history, though the game was called for darkness after the eighth inning. Joe DiMaggio (4-for-5, five RBIs) and Babe Dahlgren each homered twice and the Yankees scored five runs in the second, third and fifth innings. The offense came in support of Red Ruffing, who pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and went 4-for-6 with four RBIs. Ruffing improved to 17-4.
