Time to start the Jeter watch
It's back to Derek Jeter as the prime time Yankee. Only 27 major leaguers have at least 3,000 hits. Derek Jeter is 128 away and will certainly reach that milestone before Alex Rodriguez catches Willie Mays (660) on the list for career home runs.
Jeter, already the all-time Yankee leader in hits, was once thought to have a shot at hit king Pete Rose (4,256) but that is highly unlikely. Jeter will be at or near age 37 when he reaches 3,000. He would have to average nearly 200 hits for six more seasons to catch Rose.
