Two solid innings for Kerry Wood

After CC Sabathia delivered with two runs over six innings, Joe Girardi went with Kerry Wood for the seventh and eighth. The move paid off.

Wood gave up a hit with three strikeouts. He provided the bridge to Mariano Rivera, who will pitch the ninth.

There was speculation that the Yankees would go with just Sabathia and Rivera. But Girardi, like he did with A.J. Burnett, has faith in his staff.
