Vazquez not shocked to be skipped
Though clearly not thrilled, and there's no reason he should be, to be skipped Friday, the news didn't come as a shock to Javier Vazquez.
"I’m not surprised," Vazquez said in the clubhouse this afternoon. "I’m not a rookie. I know I’ve been struggling, that’s no secret, so I’m not surprised."
Vazquez said he couldn't recall being skipped at any point in his career, though he said maybe early in it, maybe 1998 or '99, it happened.
"I told them that I don’t think that I’ve ever been skipped, I might have, but whatever they feel is best for the team," he said. "I’m a team first guy. Whatever they think is best for the team I’ll do it."
As for tonight's lineup against the Orioles, it's Derek Jeter's turn to get a "half-day," as he as DH. The lineup:
Jeter dh
Swisher rf
Teixeira 1b
A-Rod 3b
Cano 2b
Thames lf
Gardner cf
Cervelli c
Pena ss
